Ballad Sweeney, M.S., CCC-SLP
I am a licensed speech-language pathologist, with 20 years of experience with the full range of early communication disorders from mild pronunciation errors and late talking to childhood apraxia of speech, Down syndrome, autism and language-based learning disorders.
I have worked with young children and their families in a number of treatment settings including the Scottish Rite Clinics in both Long Beach and Pasadena, non-profit speech and language clinics for preschool children; Briggs & Associates in Pasadena, a private practice specializing in family-based treatment techniques; and Pediatric Therapy Network in Torrance, a multidisciplinary clinic specializing in sensory integration techniques and center-based early intervention programs. In 2006, I established Stepping Stones in Long Beach to provide an option for parents and caregivers who wanted to be more actively involved in their child's intervention programs. The office (pictured above) is designed to be inviting and comfortable - much like a family room or kid's playroom.
I hold a Master of Science degree from California State University, Northridge, a California State License to practice speech-language pathology, and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I am a Hanen Certified provider of "It Takes Two to Talk" program. My professional development and continuing education has focused largely on working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders including basic Floortime/DIR training. I have developed my knowledge and expertise in working with children with motor speech disorders through PROMPT training (Level II) and various continuing education workshops with Edythe Strand, Nancy Kaufman, and others. A special interest of mine is narrative-based language intervention for children with specific language disorders and autism using the work of Ronald Gilman, Teresa Ukrainetz and Lauren Franke, among others. I have received three Awards for Continuing Education (ACE) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for the accrual of 70 clock hours of continuing education within a three-year period. I would be happy to provide my complete curriculum vitae upon request.
I have been married for over 20 years and have two boys, born 10 years apart. We love traveling, the beach, and creative projects at home. We live in Seal Beach and enjoy being active in the community through music, youth sports and volunteer opportunities.
